so all my studies are over and now comes the dreaded time of interviews and jacking up your CV hoping someone will take pity on you and pay you to make coffee all day. It is rather daunting getting phonecall after email saying "Sorry, your application was unsuccessful." I heard today of a young man who committed suicide because he couldn't find a job.
Now the rational side of me knows that a university degree is no guarantee in today's job market, but at university you pick up this air of being so able to do something, producing industry quality work, that why in the world would you struggle to find a job? And out here in the real world, things are so different.
I am still trying to find work as a journalist, even a writing journalist when I am trained as a radio journalist and this negative feeling is dangerous. I think a lot of graduates feel this way. Check out www.studentvillage.co.za for an article on which degree holders are more likely to get a job, and the facts say that less than 45% of BA holders will be employed within their first year out of varsity. So all I have to say is "vasbyt"! and I guess I need to start listening to myself.
